The team added two (2) cases in the last 24 hours of residents showing symptoms, but not testing positive currently. Further testing is taking place through Public Health today and we will send an update once we receive results. Family members of those residents affected have been notified.
The following infection control measures are to be implemented or continued at this time:
- Surgical Masks or N95 Masks in Birch Home Area (N95 Masks must be worn in the COVID-affected resident rooms) * N95 masks are highly recommended
- Limit of two (2) essential caregivers at a time in the Birch Home Area only
- No General Visiting to the Birch Home Area
- Ensure the Public Health 4 moments of Hand Hygiene are followed
- Resident's Hand Hygiene before all meals and regularly throughout the day
- Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used properly- including donning before entering and removing before exiting the isolated resident’s room
- Residents are to remain in the affected home area at this time to reduce the risk of spread
- *If residents insist on leaving the home area, please assist them with masking or a visor and encourage outdoor visiting.
- Twice daily respiratory symptom screening in Birch Home Area
- Immediate isolation of any residents with new symptom onset
- Cohorting of residents and only small group activities in the home area for unaffected residents. Isolated residents to receive one-to-one activities.
- Twice daily high-touch surface cleaning- changing disinfecting product to 1-minute contact time
- Limit of two (2) essential caregivers at a time in Cedar and Oak Home Areas only
- No General Visiting to Cedar and Oak Home Areas

Hands can also have bad germs on them that make you sick.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizer kills most of the bad germs that make you sick.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers kill the good and bad germs, but the good germs quickly come back on your hands.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizer does not create antimicrobial-resistant germs.
- Alcohol-based hand sanitizers kill germs quickly and in a different way than antibiotics.
Using alcohol-based hand sanitizers to clean your hands does not cause antimicrobial resistance.
Steps To Take
When residents and visitors should clean their hands
- Before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Before preparing or eating food.
- Before and after changing wound dressings or bandages.
- After using the restroom.
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- After touching hospital surfaces such as bed rails, bedside tables, doorknobs, remote controls, or the phone.
How to clean hands -With an alcohol-based hand sanitizer:
- Put product on hands and rub hands together.
- Cover all surfaces until hands feel dry. This should take around 20 seconds.
How to clean hands - With soap and water:
- Wet your hands with warm water. Use liquid soap if possible. Apply a nickel- or quarter-sized amount of soap to your hands.
- Rub your hands together until the soap forms a lather and then rub all over the top of your hands, in between your fingers and the area around and under the fingernails.
- Continue rubbing your hands for at least 15 seconds. Need a timer? Imagine singing the "Happy Birthday" song twice.
- Rinse your hands well under running water.
- Dry your hands using a paper towel if possible. Then use your paper towel to turn off the faucet and to open the door if needed.
