Work completed week of June 29 to July 3

• Multiple businesses were successfully connected to the temporary water system following approved water‑quality testing.
• Crews began installing the temporary bypass system required ahead of upcoming sewer work.
• Dust control, site fencing, pedestrian access improvements, and pothole repairs were completed to maintain safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians through the construction zone.

• One lane remains open in each direction. Drivers should expect delays and plan for additional travel time.
• Traffic conditions are being monitored and adjustments made as needed.

Work planned week of June 29 to July 3

• Once water quality testing is complete, crews will begin switching water services to the temporary water supply. Water interruption notices were delivered to affected businesses on June 25, 2026.
• Excavations will begin in the north section of the project area to prepare for underground pipe replacement.
• A temporary sewer bypass system will be installed to maintain sanitary sewer service while sanitary sewer is replaced.

Work completed week of June 22 to June 26

• Progress & safety: Crews located utilities, began testing the temporary watermain, and installed safety fencing to protect pedestrians and drivers.
• Road conditions: Potholes were repaired, the road was regraded, and recycled asphalt was added to improve driving through the zone.
• Traffic management: Signal timing was actively monitored and adjusted with MTO to maintain traffic flow.

Community impacts

• Access & traffic: Businesses remain open and accessible; one lane each direction is maintained, but delays are expected—plan extra travel time.
• Monitoring & scheduling: Traffic signals are being monitored/adjusted, and construction (including Canada Day work) continues to stay on schedule.
• Water service updates: Some businesses will have temporary water interruptions; notices have been delivered and the contractor will communicate directly with those affected.

Work planned the week of June 22 to June 26

• Crews will test the temporary water system and begin switching water services over to it.
• Preparations will continue for upcoming underground pipe replacement work, including digging access pits.
• Utility locating work will continue to confirm the location of underground services before construction advances.
  

Work completed the week of June 15 to June 19Excavation, subgrade and compaction work.

• Crews focused on locating underground utilities along the corridor.
• A temporary water pipe was set up along part of King William Street to help maintain water service during construction.
• Sections of curb, asphalt, sidewalk, and landscaping were removed to allow for underground work.
• Crews began rebuilding the road base on the northbound side.
• Temporary traffic signals were installed at the Rogers Cove Drive intersection, replacing the existing signals. .

• A single lane is available in each direction through the construction area. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to allow extra travel time. Traffic conditions are actively monitored, and adjustments are made as needed.
• Temporary water service disruptions are expected in the coming weeks. Advance notice will be provided before any planned interruptions, allowing residents and businesses time to prepare.

• Crews will finish locating and confirming underground utilities along the corridor.
• Temporary water service will be installed. Residents and businesses will receive 10 days' notice before the temporary water main is connected.
• Depending on construction progress, crews may begin replacing the road's underlying base layers on the north side of the northbound lane. This work may also include installing new stormwater pipes and catch basins.

Work Completed: June 8 to 11, 2026

• Traffic was shifted to the southbound lane to allow work to begin on the northbound side.
• Underground utility and water service lines were located at several points along both lanes.
• Removal of the northbound lane is complete, included removing asphalt pavement, concrete curbs, traffic islands, and sidewalks.
• Temporary traffic signals for vehicles and pedestrians were installed, and the existing traffic lights were covered and taken out of service.

Work projected between June 8 and June 12, 2026:

• Both directions of traffic will be shifted onto the southbound lane.
• Once the traffic switch is complete, removal of pavement, curbs, and sidewalks will begin on the northbound lane.

Work completed between June 1 and June 5, 2026:

• Traffic control was set up along King William Street, including closing the southbound lane and redirecting traffic to the northbound lane, maintaining one lane of travel in each direction.

• Pavement, curbs, and sidewalks were removed along the southbound lane between Rogers Cove Drive and Highway 60. Some curbs and asphalt at the King William Street and Rogers Cove Drive intersection still need to be removed.
• Traffic signal timing was adjusted to keep traffic moving smoothly, including updated turn and through-movement phases for southbound traffic.

King William Street Reconstruction Update: Two-Way Traffic to be Maintained During Construction

The District of Muskoka has revised its traffic management plan for the King William Street reconstruction project and will maintain one northbound lane and one southbound lane through the construction area while work progresses.

The original plan called for King William Street to operate as one-way southbound traffic only between Scott Street and Highway 60. Following discussions with local businesses, the District worked with the contractor to review the traffic management plan and identify a solution that would maintain two-way access through the construction zone.

To support this revised approach, additional traffic control measures will be implemented, including temporary signal modifications, additional traffic control staff, and specialized traffic control equipment.

What to Expect

• One northbound lane and one southbound lane will be maintained through the construction area.
• Lane closures are anticipated to begin this week once traffic control measures are finalized.
• Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
• Significant traffic delays and congestion are expected in both directions during contractor hours, particularly Monday through Thursday
• Traffic conditions are expected to improve during evenings and weekends when construction activities are reduced or paused.
• Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible.

The District and its contractor will continue to monitor traffic conditions and project operations throughout construction and make adjustments where practical and appropriate.

The District appreciates the feedback received from local businesses and remains committed to working collaboratively with the community throughout construction.

The contractor continues to prepare the site this week ahead of major construction work.

King William Street is now scheduled to be partially closed and limited to one-way traffic as early as the week of June 1. Once this is in place, northbound traffic on King William Street from Scott Street to Highway 60 will be closed. Southbound traffic will remain open. This partial road closure will help ensure work can be completed as efficiently as possible, while maintaining access to all businesses during construction.

The contractor is scheduled to begin site set-up as early as the week of May 19.

Major construction, including parts of King William Street being partially closed and limited to one-way traffic, is scheduled to start as early as the week of May 25. Once this is in place, northbound traffic on King William Street from Scott Street to Highway 60 will be closed. Southbound traffic will remain open. Additional details will be shared as construction gets underway.
