Please follow these steps to help keep everyone safe:

Wear Surgical Masks

• Everyone must wear a surgical mask in the Oak Home Area at all times.

Wash your hands thoroughly

• Before touching a resident.
• After touching a resident or their surroundings.

Help Residents Clean Their Hands

• Make sure residents clean their hands before every meal and regularly throughout the day.

Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Correctly

• Put on PPE (like gloves, gowns, and masks) before entering an isolated resident’s room.
• Take off all PPE before leaving the room to avoid spreading germs.

Keep Residents in the Affected Home Area

• Residents should stay in the Oak Home Area for now to reduce the risk of spreading illness.

If Residents Want to Leave the Area

• If a resident insists on leaving, help them wear a mask or visor to protect others. Encourage outdoor visits instead of indoor ones when possible.

We're happy to report that we will be starting a week long flooring replacement project on March 24th. The goal will be to remove the old carpeting from the 2nd floor common areas which include the multifaith and contemplation room, the staff hallway, the hallway towards the Fran Coleman Room and the elevators.

The new flooring will be a True North Luxury Vinyl product, produced by a family-owned Canadian company. This product can withstand the heaviest commercial traffic environments and has the thickest, most durable wear layer in the industry. The colour will match the vinyl flooring currently on our 1st floor.

Floor replacement can somewhat disruptive so most of the work will be done overnight. The affected are not within any Resident Home Areas so sleep will not be disrupted.

• Ensure the Public Health 4 moments of Hand Hygiene are followed
• Resident's Hand Hygiene before all meals and regularly throughout the day
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used properly- including donning before entering and removing before exiting the isolated resident’s room
• Residents are to remain in the affected home area at this time to reduce the risk of spread
• *If residents insist on leaving the home area, please assist them with masking or a visor and encourage outdoor visiting.
• Immediate isolation of any residents with new symptom onset
• Cohorting of staff, when possible.
• Cohorting of residents and only small group activities in the home area for unaffected residents. Isolated residents to receive one-to-one activities.
• Twice daily high-touch surface cleaning- changing disinfecting product to 1-minute contact time and contains sporicidal
• Increased hand hygiene and PPE audits in the home area with coaching
• No General Visitors at this time. Only two (2) essential caregivers at a time

We will continue to provide updates as we move through the outbreak.
