I wanted to provide some clarity related to the dietary department. Sarah Tolton is moving on from the Pines at this time, effective today and we wish her well in her future endeavors. We will be actively recruiting over the next several months to find a new leader for the dietary team. We will post information related to the recruitment when it is available. Residents' Council spoke and we listened.

With the support of the Pines Support Committee, we purchased In Memoriam Boards for all of the resident home areas. Residents' Council wanted to ensure that all residents in the home were aware when a resident passes away. Many residents have friends throughout the home and they would like to know if someone has passed away.

The activity team will keep the Memoriam Boards up to date on all of the home areas. Thank you again to the Pines Support Committee for supporting the purchase of the boards to support the residents in the home.

The FLTCA and its regulations expand palliative care requirements from the previous long-term care act. Palliative care has been added to the Residents' Bill of Rights which states it is the right of every resident to have provided with care and services based on a palliative care philosophy.

Understanding palliative care is more than just end-of-life care.

The palliative care requirements reflect a shift in practice toward a broader, more holistic approach to palliative care. They are consistent with the Ontario Provincial Framework for Palliative Care.

The Home's policies have been updated with the requirements in the Act.

As of April 11, 2022, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 continues the strong protection for whistle-blowers included in the (former) Long-Term Care Act. It expands these to apply to any disclosure by anyone to any person of the ministry and to a long-term care home's Residents' Council and Family Council, if. any.

On October 26^th, 2022 The Pines will be having their Emergency Evacuation Drill and we are needing some volunteer help with this! Are you or anyone you know available to help us out? Is there a class out there that would be willing to come in for some experiences mean while helping us out with this mandatory drill? If so…please see the Administration team for more information on how you can help!

We are also looking for more volunteers to come into our home to assist in a variety of ways…Do you play music or sing? Do you like to do puzzles or read aloud? How about playing bingo or going for walks? Visiting one-to-one? Laundry folding, dining room clean up/set up, a helper at a special event …! A lot of these volunteer opportunities can happen on your own schedule! Please reach out to the Administration team and we would be happy to get you enrolled!

• And so much more…
