Pink Shirt Day was created to raise awareness about the impact of bullying and to encourage people to stand up for others. The movement began in 2007 in Berwick, Nova Scotia, when two Grade 12 students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, witnessed a Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt on the first day of school. In a powerful act of solidarity, they purchased 50–75 pink shirts and distributed them to their classmates the next day. The resulting “sea of pink” sent a strong message of support and effectively put an end to the harassment.
