Huntsville: Downtown Revitalization and Streetscaping

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The Downtown Revitalization and Streetscaping project in Downtown Huntsville is driven by the need for upgrades to ageing infrastructure, including water and sewer utilities beneath Main Street. Partners for this project include the District of Muskoka, Town of Huntsville, Downtown Huntsville BIA, and the Huntsville & Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce.

January 2021:

We are working on an update to provide in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned for more information!

  • As our community monitors COVID-19, the District of Muskoka and Town of Huntsville continues to work behind the scenes to design and bring the conceptual Streetscape Design Brief to reality

  • Together, with our partners, we received feedback from multiple surveys about construction timelines. You gave us your feedback on construction timelines, staging/phasing, and when construction should start. We are currently in the procurement phase of the project and look forward to providing more information soon
  • Download 60% Design Drawings:

More updates, documents and reports will be available soon!

Construction Schedule:
Timing discussions underway as we monitor COVID-19: Spring, 2021.

Project Location: Downtown Huntsville - from Lorne Street up to and including the Swing Bridge (approximately 600m in length)

Project Summary: This project will include the complete rebuilding of water, sewer, and storm servicing. The roadway will be rebuilt and streetscaped to upgrade and revitalize the look and feel of downtown Huntsville. The swing bridge will also undergo minor maintenance activities such as steel repainting and weatherproofing. The District and Town of Huntsville are partnering together to complete this project.

Anticipated Public Impact:
Road, utility, and streetscape construction will require partial and potential full lane closures for intervals during this entire project. Discussions regarding exact construction staging and phasing to minimize impacts will continue to be the main topic of discussion with the partners and stakeholder groups. Brief utility service interruptions are anticipated during water and sewer removal and subsequent install (commissioning). Once exact dates and times are determined, both traffic and service interruptions will be included in regular communication updates in advance of their implementation.

We look forward to sharing more information about this project when more details are confirmed.
Please follow the project to stay updated on our plans!
