June 29, 2026 Update

Work planned the week of June 29 to July 3

• The contractor is prepared to resume construction as soon as Enbridge Gas provides direction on how to safely address issues with the existing underground natural gas infrastructure.
• Construction is currently targeting a restart during the week of June 29, pending Enbridge’s direction.

Work completed the week of June22 to June 26

• The project team coordinated with Enbridge Gas to confirm how to safely manage existing natural gas infrastructure before resuming construction activities.

Community impacts

• Businesses in the construction zone remain open and accessible to customers.
• Bay Street remains closed between Sarah Street and Muskoka Road. Residents and motorists are encouraged to use the posted detour routes.
• A temporary water service interruption is expected in the coming weeks. Advance notice will be provided before any planned disruption, allowing residents and businesses time to prepare.

The contractor won’t be working on Canada Day.

June 22 Update:

Work planned the week of June 22 to June 26

• Crews are continuing to work with utility companies to identify and resolve conflicts with existing underground utilities before construction can advance.

Work completed the week of June 15 to June 18

• Crews used hydrovac equipment to carefully expose and confirm the location of gas mains and service connections along the corridor.

June 8 Update:

Work Planned June 15 to 19, 2026

• The contractor is working with utility providers to address conflicts with existing underground utilities.
• Preparation work is ongoing in advance of sanitary sewer

Work Completed June 8 to 12, 2026

• Existing underground utilities, including water and sanitary services, were located throughout the project limits.
• Construction barriers and fencing were installed to ensure public safety.
• Approximately 90 per cent of surface removal work was completed.

June 2 Update:
Line Painting: There will be single lane closures from just east of Steamship Bay Road to Greavette Street beginning Tuesday, June 2 at 9 p.m. to Wednesday, June 3 at 7 a.m. Crews will be conducting line painting.

June 1 Update:

What's Coming Up This Week

• Water quality testing on the temporary water supply will continue.
• The full construction crew and equipment will be mobilized and brought on site.
• The temporary water line will be connected to the existing shut-off valves.
• Crews will begin removing asphalt, curbs, and the north sidewalk.

Progress Last Week

• Workers located and exposed the existing water shut-off valves (curb stops) underground, and put temporary supports in place to keep them safe during construction.
• A temporary water supply was set up and water quality testing is underway; the District collected a second round of bacteria samples on May 28.
• Temporary fencing and posts were installed south of Bay Street to keep pedestrian walkways safe and clearly marked.
• Traffic control signs were put in place to prepare for the upcoming Phase 4 road closure.
