About the 575 First Street South Transitional Housing Development

Every Person Deserves a Place to Call Home

People experiencing homelessness are members of our community. They may be seniors, youth leaving foster care, people with disabilities, or neighbourswho’ve faced a sudden crisis like losing a job, struggling with their health, or leaving an unsafe home.

This new housing development in downtown Gravenhurst is about creating a safe, stable place to rebuild life. It will offer transitional housing, where District staff and partner agencies will support residents as they move from homelessness into permanent housing.

Each person will be supported in finding long-term housing that meets their needs.

This development offers a foundation for people to rebuild their lives with hope.

It’s one way we’re working toward Housing for Everyone in Muskoka.

Introducing 575 First Street South

This single-storey building features six private, self-contained studio units in a side-by-side layout. These homes are built in a factory and assembled on-site. Each unit has its own entrance, creating a small-scale, residential feel that fits with the surrounding neighbourhood. The building is designed for long-term use, using durable, high-quality materials.

Construction is scheduled to start as early as June 2026.Target occupancy is summer 2026.

This relaxed, casual drop-in session will allow attendees to enjoy a coffee on us and chat with the project team about project updates and ask questions. There’s no agenda, just good conversation.

Muskoka’s Big Move on Housing

This is the second capital build in the District’s $30 million Big Move on Housing, a long-term investment in safe, attainable, and sustainable housing options across Muskoka.

It also supports the District’s 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan, helping reduce homelessness and improve housing stability for those most in need.

This work directly aligns with District Council’s strategic priorities, including supporting community well-being, improving housing access, and building strong, inclusive communities.

This is about more than housing. It is about stability, dignity, and the kind of community we want to be.
