The District of Muskoka in partnership with its Area Municipalities, is developing a Waste Management Strategy to discover new ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce through further reduction, reusing, recycling and composting.

The District is always looking at ways to divert more material, including recyclables, from ending up in the landfill – while ensuring that the level and cost of waste management services is satisfactory and reasonable.

What we're working on now:

  • Community Consultation Session - Postponed:
A Community Consultation Session (CCS) on the Madill Church Road Transfer Station in Huntsville will occur later in 2020. (it was originally scheduled for March 2, 2020 - please note, this CCS has been postpone to undertake some additional studies. Notice of the revised date will be posted on this site and will be published in the newspaper.)

  • a plan to transition 88 bin sites to alternate collection service, as directed by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) - visit our Bin Site Transition project page

  • analyzing the comments, feedback and data from residents gathered throughout our consultation period in 2019, to make recommendations on future initiatives and waste services offered to form the District's Waste Management Strategy
