Muskoka Official Plan Review Update- Upcoming Open House and Public Meeting for the Muskoka Official Plan Review

The District Municipality of Muskoka is hosting a Statutory Open House and Public Meeting as part of the Five-Year Comprehensive Review of the Muskoka Official Plan (MOP).

Through this process, first initiated in 2024, the five key components of the review have now been completed and will be featured as a whole as Official Plan Amendment 61 (Five-Year Comprehensive Muskoka Official Plan Review), the five components are noted below:

• Component 1: Growth Strategy: Establishes where and how Muskoka will accommodate future growth, with a focus on complete communities, and housing supply.

• Component 2: Resort Development: Updates policies guiding resort development, supporting economic vitality while protecting District interests.

• Component 3: Environmental Resiliency: Strengthens policies related to integrated watershed management, climate action, and updated environmental and floodplain mapping to better protect public health and safety and enhance resiliency to a changing climate.

• Component 4: Lake System Health: Introduces updated policies to help protect water quality and maintain the ecological health of the waterbodies in Muskoka, a cornerstone of the District’s environment and economy.

• Component 5: Housekeeping & Provincial Policy Updates: Ensures alignment with recent provincial planning changes and provides technical updates to improve clarity, consistency, and implementation.

The Open Houses and Public Meeting provide an opportunity for the public to further review OPA 61 and share feedback before policies are finalized. Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more about the proposed updates, and help shape the future of Muskoka. Community input is a critical part of the planning process and helps ensure the Official Plan reflects Muskoka’s shared vision for balanced growth, healthy environment and watersheds, and strong, vibrant communities. Written comments on OPA 61 are strongly encouraged and may continue to be submitted up until the date of adoption.
