We’re excited to announce the District of Muskoka’s first
Winter Lakeside Waste Collection Program!

What is Lakeside Waste Collection?
The District has been working closely with our consulting team and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) for approved waste collection service as we transition the bin (dumpster) sites.

We recognize this change is difficult. With feedback from communities, we’ve worked to plan a pilot program for this winter to better understand seasonal servicing needs - this waste collection program will start on Sunday, November 7, 2021, and continue every other Sunday until April 24, 2022.

This winter, our Winter Lakeside Waste Collection program stops at the Riley Lake (Gravenhurst) and Pine, Leech and Bigwind (Bracebridge) communities every other Sunday.

What can I bring?
This winter, waste collection trucks will be present every other Sunday at a dedicated location for a scheduled period to collect garbage and recycling.

  • up to six (6) bags of household garbage, securely tied
  • unlimited recycling, delivered loose or in clear/transparent bags (with contents visible)

Please be reminded we cannot accept large/bulky items. Bulky items can be taken to any District Waste Facility during normal operating hours.

Where and when will the trucks stop?

Can garbage be dropped off outside of the event hours?

No. We are relying on the cooperation of our dedicated Muskoka community to respect this special service and, at the same time, preserve our beautiful Muskoka environment – the reason we all choose to live here. Any abandoned garbage left on the ground before or after the event time is considered illegal dumping, these instances will be investigated and may result in the cancellation of the program.

Stay tuned for updates on our 2022 Summer Lakeside Waste Collection Program.
