King William Street Improvements

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The King William Street revitalization project in the Town of Huntsville represents a unique point in Huntsville’s history. The crews you will encounter are upgrading underground infrastructure that is exceeding 50 years old. This essential work will make our roads smoother, safer, improve pedestrian access, alleviate parking issues, increase the capacity for development, and improve the efficiency of our water and sewer infrastructure.

COVID-19 Update: During this time, all involved will be committed to closely monitoring construction site conditions to ensure compliance with COVID-19 measures recommended by local, provincial, and federal health officials. Businesses and residents living or working near King William Street who have questions or concerns are reminded not to approach the contractor, to minimize direct contact with our project team. J.B. Enterprises Ltd. will be contacting businesses directly regarding construction and maintaining business continuity for essential services.

May 26, 2020: Rolling road closures on King William Street

As crews continue to utilize the rolling closure of King William Street between Hanes and Cann Street which began on May 20, 2020, progress on the sanitary sewer has now led to work proceeding into the King William/Cliff Avenue intersection. The closing of King William Street will continue to be completed in 50 metre “rolling” sections which will allow the Contractor to more efficiently install underground water and sewer infrastructure and maneuver around existing utilities.

The rolling full closure remains in place between Hanes Street and Cliff Avenue. There is no 'through' traffic, but access is maintained to local businesses in the area. Eastbound traffic will continue to use the signed detour via Hanes Street, Morris Avenue, Cliff Avenue. Westbound traffic on King William Street will continue to use the detour via Cann Street, Chaffey Street, Manominee Street and John Street.

Beginning on Wednesday, May 27 until Friday, May 29, 2020:

    • Eastbound traffic will be detoured off of Cliff Ave onto Meadow Park Drive, Scott Street, and back onto King William Street.
    • Local traffic will be available on Chaffey St from Cann St to King William Street intersection
    • Left turns onto Chaffey Street from King William Street will not be available
    • No access onto King William Street from Cliff Avenue, Hanes Street and Fairy Street

Although sidewalk work will be taking place, a fully accessible sidewalk will be provided on one side of the road at all times. Signage will be provided at adjacent intersections to direct pedestrians to cross to the opposite side of the road.
