Housing is about more than bricks and mortar. It is about stability, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive.
The site of Bracebridge’s former Memorial Arena is being redeveloped to serve the community in a new way, bringing much-needed housing to the heart of Bracebridge in Muskoka.
A new 82-unit District-owned housing development in downtown Bracebridge is moving toward construction, with site preparation expected to begin this fall. The six-storey building will provide new rental homes for a range of household sizes, with occupancy planned by the end of 2028.
About the Bracebridge Affordable Housing Development
A six-storey building with 82 units designed for a range of household sizes, including larger households and families with children
A mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units
At least 25% of the units will have affordable rent, and the other units may be offered at low to modest market rents
One-third of the units will be accessible/barrier-free,while the remaining units will be designed to support any future accessibility needs
The ground floor is planned to include space for children’s programming, with details still being finalized
The development will also support the continued growth and vibrancy of the downtown, with housing close to businesses, services, transit and other community amenities.
This project reflects the best of Muskoka: a community that comes together, takes action and looks out for one another. It is one more way we are working toward Housing for Everyone in Muskoka.
Working Together to Build Housing for Everyone
This progress on housing is possible thanks to the ongoing commitment and collaboration between the District, the Town of Bracebridge, Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North, and Greystone Project Management Inc.
Habitat for Humanity will also build housing as part of this development of the former arena lands.
By working together, we are turning plans into homes.
Muskoka’s Big Move on Housing
This affordable housing development is part of the District’s Big Move on Housing, a $35.1 million investment to support housing projects and partnerships that help reduce homelessness, expand affordable housing and support future housing growth across Muskoka.
It also supports the District’s 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan, helping reduce homelessness and improve housing stability for those most in need.
This work directly aligns with District Council’s strategic priorities, including supporting community well-being, improving housing access, and building strong, inclusive communities.
For 82 households, this building represents more than a new address. It represents stability, independence, and a place to call home that is close to jobs, services and the community they are part of.
